Projects & Swaps

I have joined three swaps from a quilt forum that I love and only received fabric back from one.  I am starting to worry.  This is the fabric that I am sending for the noodle swap.  I had to join the swap mainly because I did not know what a noodle was.  I have found out that a noodle is a 2.5" by WOF (width of fabric) 22.  With the fabric on the fold when you cut it is 2.5" by 44".  For this swap you could swap up to four sets and a set is 12 noodles. You  are suppose to receive 4 set for each of 12 different prints.  I will let you know how it turns out.                                              Now for my projects.  During the March guild meeting you could bring 3 fat quarters in a brown bag with your name inside.  All bags were placed in the middle of the floor and you had to pick a bag.  With the bags contents you are to make something and give back to that person.  I am very excited and worried about this.  Excited because the members of the guild do work that will blow you away and worried because I am going to give my beginner work to someone.  I hope they are forgiving.  The fabric that was in the bag I picked is Asian,  and this is what I have done with it so far.  Did I mention that this project has to be quilted.    I know it is hard to l that much about my piece because I have it laying on a bed that has a quilt on it I will post a better pic.  Now
this has to be completed by the May meeting

My next project that I am working on is Kenzie's quilt.  Kenzie is the granddaughter of one of the guys that I work with and I wanted to make her a quilt because my heart is always warmed when I listen to him tell stories of Kenzie. His whole face lights up and you can see how much he loves her.  I wanted her quilt to turn out perfect and I am disappointed in the quilting.  I am doing free motion quilting and I get frustrated.  I always tackle puckers on the back and do not know how to prevent this problem.  I will let you know if I find a solution.

2008 Quilts

This is my second project.  I  made it for my daughter Brittany  I did not have a pattern so I just flew by the seat of my pants.
 

  I can tell you i learned a lot from this project.  Now for the back.  

I think I had just as much fun with the back as
did with the top.  If you can see in the side of the pic i used some of the scrap to put a border at the top and bottom.  Ok i will show you the stitching,but remember this was my first free motion project and my second quilting project. 

The stitching was suppose to be hearts and loops but I am afraid I made more hearts and bottoms than anything.  I guess it doesn't matter because she shows it that true teenage love, it will be in the floor, hall way, closet but very rarely on the bed.

Ok!!! now for the next project.  I wanted to make something for one of the men in my life.... MY DAD!! My dad is a big Harley man and there is no fabric made by Harley  Davidson so I used their sheets and this is what I came up with.  The bar and shield in the middle was a pillow case.  He loved it and was very surprised. The back is black and flames.  My stitching on this is flames I am telling you what they are because otherwise you may not be able to tell....  

Well I hope you enjoy looking at these as much as I enjoyed making them.  I will have to put a post up on how to make the flames..

Today

Well it is 11:16 pm and I guess i will share with you my progress for the day.  first of all my to do list.  do you make one and how much do you actually get done?  i have adult add so i can not live with out a list, with that being said here it is for the day.....i hope you can read it.  if not here it is

so now for the results.... i have about four more loads of laundry ( i did 8 today).  i did rearrange my room. the sewing room is in a bigger mess than when i started today.  all i like on the house is the floors and bathrooms, i did not even thank about the garage.  i did write the thank yous. i am afraid to make a project list because then i would have to admit to how many i have going.  of course i ordered thread and maybe some fabric too. i did not make it to the quilt shop for fabric.  oh!!! i did not get the rest to the garden in.  it is a good thing that this is the weekend to do list and i still have tomorrow...
i did get this lady bug baby top done today.  it turned out larger than i had originally planned.

                                           that is better.  this was the first time that i appliqued and i don't thank you can call what i tried to do applique; however i did learn alot from this top.  i am thinking of putting pink rick rac around the brown small border.  i will leave you all with a new pic of my little one that always keeps me on my toes....   is she a doll or what.... i love her sooooooooo much....

Chickens

i love chickens.  we have been without chickens for about four years.  i work with the best guys (i work with all men) in the whole world and one of them is building me a chicken coupe.  as you can see it is in the painting process now.  the plan is to paint it red with white trim.  and green grass and flowers around the bottom.  a different great guy that i work with brought me chickens. as you can see i have quite a ways to go before we will have any eggs.  i am so excited and so blessed to have such great people in my life. 

My girls

Get ready! You about to meet two of the greatest, craziest and keep you on your toes young ladies ever.

I told you all they are crazy.  The burnett is Bailey she is 16 and the blonde is  Brittany she is 13.  Yes I know I am to young to have girls this old.  The thing that scares me is that I will be without them in just a blink of an eye. 

I started quilting with my grandmother Mim (Onnie) when I was a little girl.  She let me sit under the quilt frame and stick the needles back through the top.  I know it was just to keep me busy every so often.  I then got old enough to cut pieces.  I live is Texas and my grandmother lives in Arkansa and my older brother and I would spend the summer in Arkansa with Mim and Grandy.  I loved it.  Mim never knew it but I would always bring one piece of fabric home with me.  I never tried to do a project till last September 2008.  My niece Angela recieved a schlorship to join the pitching staff of SFA and I wanted to send her to school with a quilt.  I started September 2008 in the hopes of being done by Christmas.  As soon as I cut the fabric I could not put it down.  I had the quilt done by October.  I look forward to sharing my experinces of quilting and motherhood as well as my life with you all.  Till I make it back I wish you all well!!!!
